VMware Could Reveal a New App Store and Its Blockchain Venture

Catalogs for the VMWorld event by VMware are now live, and they reveal that the company could be focusing extensively on cloud and blockchain-based solutions. It could focus on its new enterprise blockchain solutions, Edge computing and cloud foundation programs. The content catalogs for its events in Las Vegas and Barcelona have hinted towards their interest in distributed ledgers.

Could There Be a Major Reveal?

VMWorld USA attendees could participate in a session titled “VMware enterprise blockchain – getting started.” The company also announced a workshop in the same name that will “explore the core features and functions of VMware Enterprise Blockchain.”

The company has previously spoken about its interest in blockchain technology, hinting that it prefers “Byzantine Consensus” over proof-of-work which it considers wasteful and immoral.

The company has a dedicated page for VM-chain on its website, which reads that VMware “is actively participating in advancing the infrastructure underlying the Blockchain technology in order to provide the most secure, reliable, and scalable Blockchain platforms.”

It is highly likely that a product is in development, but is being kept secret for now.

What Else to Expect at the Conference?

The Barcelona event will feature a session on the company’s cloud marketplace. Titled “Introduction to the VMware Cloud Marketplace,” the company calls its new store an “exciting new service” that could help in extending the user’s penetration into the cloud in VMware Solution Exchange, their existing store for software partners.

In the U.S., they will be presenting a session on “vSphere Client Roadmap: Past, Present, and Future.” It will focus on the vSphere Client, which is the only service available to manage the vSphere environment in the cloud solutions offered by the company on AWS. The company has not clarified whether it will say goodbye to its VMware Cloud hosted on AWS or not, following the release of this new service.

It will also hold a session titled called “Project Fractal: Edge Computing for the Real World” that could help users in simplifying deployment, management, and updates to their applications and infrastructure on the cloud. They could also talk about Cloud Foundation updates, Blast Extreme VDI protocol updates and could also feature their updates on the AppDefense product.
