Source: TwitterAccording to the pinned tweet, Twitter is launching “140 free NFTs for 140 of you, besties.” The likely reason for the number 140 relates to the amount of characters users are allowed per a tweet. The Twitter collection is launching on NFT platform Rarible. The collection is titled “The 140 Collection.”
The account has tweeted eight different examples of NFTs that will likely be up for grabs, however there are no further instructions or announcements on how one gets their hands on the Twitter NFTs.
NFT craze not fading anytime soonWhile some have speculated that the NFT craze is coming to an end. It appears that this is not the case. Most recently, digital artist and record holder for the most expensive NFT in history, Beeple, announced the launch of his own NFT site called WeNew. The platform is said to commemorate historic moments in sports, music, art and more.
The digital native generation appear to be finding value in collectibles like NFTs, which correlates to their appetite for investing in cryptocurrencies.
Celebrities such as famed rapper Jay-Z are also getting into the market late, with the artist dropping his first album titled “Reasonable Doubt” as an NFT. The auction for the NFT album is currently on auction at Sotheby’s. The auction price currently sits at $35,000.
Traditional art joining the NFT spaceTraditional art continues to expand into the digital realm. Popular art pieces from Picasso and Andy Warhol have recently been auctioned off as NFTs, with Andy Warhol’s ‘Three Self-Portraits’ selling for $2.8 million to Tron founder Justin Sun.
Another popular NFT currently up for auction is Tim Berners-Lee’s original source code for the World Wide Web (WWW). The auction which is currently ongoing at Sotheby’s is expected to bring in big money as this once off NFT will see the winner becoming the owner of the 9,555 lines of code that Berners-Lee originally created.
