LinkedIn Co-Founder Believes Blockchain Can Work Against Fake News

Both fake news and blockchain technology expanded during the last years. Fake news can manipulate electors and change how they behave at the time of voting. Blockchain technology could play an important role in order to reduce the number of fake news spreading on the internet.

According to Eric Ly, blockchain expert and co-founder of the famous professional social network LinkedIn, blockchain can improve the content that is created. He said that although we depend on the internet and digital services in many activities of our lives, it is hard to trust the internet.

At the moment, there is inaccurate information, which causes distrust. However, blockchain technology could be a very useful tool in order to fight against this issue.

About it, he commented:

“Blockchain has an immutable feature by which each new piece of information depends on the previous piece of information. Every piece is linked and every piece relies on the cryptographic security of the last piece.”

With blockchain, it is impossible to change the data that has already been written and that affects the data that comes next. This is very useful since it would allow individuals and interested parties to store things of value on the blockchain.

Moreover, Ly has also talked about spam content and how distributed ledger technology can be used to fight against it. At the moment, there are different blockchain companies that are trying to improve the content that is shared on social media and the internet.

Facebook, for example, is also working very hard in order to stop fake news from spreading on its platform. There are some studies that show that fake content could have helped Trump be elected as president of the United States.
