As is common with many blockchain projects these days, The Tron Foundation leaves no stones unturned and organizes bug bounty programs to find help from its broad community of developers and independent researchers to contribute to its development. The Tron blockchain has been enriched with bug bounties and some private key hunting programs that simultaneously help in improving awareness and adoption of the blockchain and crypto industry.
Over $65,000 Paid in Bug BountiesTron’s bug bounty for finding vulnerabilities in the mainnet has helped the blockchain improve while paying significant sums to its developers and researchers. The program has paid over $65,700 in bounties, and the average bounty gives away $3,000 to the researchers. The top bounty in this program has been $10,000. According to Tron’s HackerOne page, 8 reports have been resolved to date, and 13 researchers thanked for their contribution.
Tron pays a top prize of $10,000 for critical bugs in its system that could assume control of the java-Tron nodes via remote execution of code or which could lead to private key leaks. It pays $6,000 for high severity bugs that could lead to DoS attacks in java-Tron through RPC-API or P2P network. Medium severity bugs are paid $3000 if they can lead to a DoS attack in java-Tron using Tron protocol or lead to unauthorized use of user accounts. Other low severity bugs are paid $100.
Tron’s Other Bounties and RewardsIn August this year, Tron founder Justin Sun unveiled a private key reward program that would give away 6,666 Tron tokens to anyone who found a private key from an image. They also announced another hunt at the end of the month which would distribute over 58,000 TRX tokens to the winners.
Though TRX is a low-priced token, the total USD value of the tokens would not run into several thousand dollars. However, TRX is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies in the world and currently ranks 11th by market capitalization, according to CoinMarketCap statistics. Additionally, the Tron blockchain is pushing for higher adoption and bringing millions of users to its platform via its acquisitions and application ecosystem.
It will be interesting to note what new bounty and reward programs the Tron Foundation comes up with in the future.
