Gemini, the digital currency exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, is making big preparations to improve its platform’s service. As it gears up to serve more professional traders and traditional investors, the New York based crypto exchange just hired a former New York Stock Exchange executive as its chief technology officer.
Winklevoss Twins Hire Robert CornishGemini just hired Robert Cornish, who will be joining the company later this month as its first chief technology officer, according to a Bloomberg report. Cornish previously worked for the New York Stock Exchange as its CTO and the Nasdaq-owned securities exchange ISE Holdings as its CIO, according to Business Insider.
With his vast experience and expertise, Cornish will help Gemini further enhance its quality of service to deliver only the best platform experience to its rapidly growing clientele. In an interview with Forbes, Gemini president Cameron Winklevoss revealed that Cornish’s experience in platform building and servicing a large bourse such as the NYSE is just what Gemini needs as the exchange continues to expand.
Cornish will head Gemini’s technology team and will oversee the deployment of Nasdaq’s SMARTS Market Surveillance technology. With SMARTS in place, Gemini will be able to monitor transactions and even detect potential illicit activity.
Winklevoss said:
“There are things that New York is doing that nobody else in the world is doing, and those things happen to be very relevant to what Gemini is doing.”
Crypto Firms Bringing in ExpertsRecently, institutional investors have shown increased interest in the cryptocurrency industry. In preparation for the entry of these big investors, crypto firms have been trying to woo executives who have experience in dealing with investors from the mainstream market.
For instance, a number of rival Coinbase’s employees are also former employees of the NYSE. Another example is the Kraken crypto exchange which was able to hire Jump Trading’s Steve Hunt, who joined the firm as its VP of engineering.
