Crypto.com, a platform that allows users to trade and receive payments in crypto, is now the official cryptocurrency platform partner for the Paris Saint-Germain, the club that recently contracted the world’s greatest footballer Lionel Messi.
As part of the multi-year and very significant deal, Paris-Saint Germain is also planning to release a non-fungible token or NFT to be sold through the crypto.com native NFT platform.
The announcement came yesterday from the two companies. Crypto.com will pay a portion of the sponsorship fee using its native CRO crypto token. Crypto.com co-founder and CEO Kris Marszalek said the move would propel the adoption of cryptocurrencies and boost football fan experiences.
“Our mission since day one has been to accelerate the world’s transition to cryptocurrency. We do so by finding the best partners in the world, and Paris Saint-Germain is second to none” he said, “Between the brand visibility, stadium and team access, and collaborative development of NFTs, I have no doubt we’ll create new and exciting experiences for football fans around the world.”
The crypto company has over 10 million customers globally and its crypto Visa debit card is usable in over 30 countries. It already collaborates with the likes of UFC, Formula One, and Lega Serie A in similar deals.
Paris Saint-Germain Chief Partnerships Officer Marc Armstrong said regarding the announcement that the two companies share the same passion for innovation.
“With this partnership, Paris Saint-Germain demonstrates once more its vision and leadership as a pioneer in areas such as lifestyle, esports, and digital. It is an exciting time for cryptocurrency and we cannot wait to work with Crypto.com to bring new experiences to all of the club’s fans.”
Paris Saint-Germain is referred to as an innovation-oriented club, which explains their move to work with crypto companies. It runs eSports football teams for both men and women. Already, the club has a fan token available for sale on the Crypto.com platform. The token, which is also traded via Socios.com, gives voting rights to fans to influence decision-making in the club.
Previously, the club reached a deal with Socios.com for Messi to be the latter’s free agent to the use of the Socios platform. The footballer’s contract would partially be paid in cryptocurrency.
