In a recent article, Santiago Siri, the founder of Democracy Earth Foundation, talks about internet giants and how they have been taking Orwellian measures to control the whole network through artificial intelligence (AI). He also discusses how crypto could play an important role for individuals to defend against this.
According to him, AI seems to be a threat to humanity. Something that Elon Musk and Sam Altman usually warn. Additionally, social algorithms have been growing all over the internet and are able to explain today’s political reality.
As he wrote, Marck Zuckerberg did not say anything about the fact that internet is no-longer compatible with the nation-state nowadays. Internet works with AI systems that follow our likes, retweets, upvotes and links. This allows systems to survey society in benefit of the network’s owners.
Satoshi Nakamoto presented his vision of ‘one-CPU-one-vote,’ something that had an important influence in the crypto industry. The question that Santiago Siri makes is how it is possible to formalize humans online but in a decentralized way.
In order to start building this network, it is necessary a decentralized protocol for human identities. Nevertheless, this should put the focus on a human consensus providing legitimacy and constructing a network to reach the full potential of blockchain technology.
This network will require an effective defence to prevent bots, Sybil attacks and other emerging threats. It will be necessary Turing-impossible proofs to create a human-based consensus. It will also need powerful computers but simplified for humans to understand it.
To confirm that there is a singular identity, Sybils must be eliminated. As Siri explains, a reputation-based graph must be put in place and gather more trust from the network. It is also important to have humans in charge of the network, taking care of it.
Siri explains that at Democracy Earth they are working to design a consensus protocol using ERC-20 tokens. This is aimed at validating Turing-impossible proofs. Once the score for a specific hash reaches the consensus threshold there is a check that asks ‘Are you Human?’ and it is issued for a specific ERC-725 identity.
A human consensus on the internet must provide tools and measure inclusive capacities of blockchain economies, says Siri.
