Controversies and drama in the cryptocurrency space are not a new thing with recurring and new characters contributing to the cauldron of speculations. The latest twist in the world of digital assets was contributed by CryptoMedication, a cryptocurrency research organization, when it speculated that there were strong ties between Bitcoin.com’s Roger Ver and Binance Chief Executive Officer [CEO] Changpeng Zhao. The first tweet read:
“Those that are fans of #BitcoinSV are mad at me for what I said about CSW recently. But I think they’ll be happy about this thread where I expose the *strong* ties between @rogerkver and @cz_binance.”
The thread pointed to how CZ’s first job in the world of digital assets was in Blockchain.info, where he worked with Roger Ver and Ben Reeves. An excerpt from a release also said:
“He [CZ] joined Blockchain.info as the third member of the cryptocurrency wallet’s team. As head of development for eight months, he worked closely with well-known Bitcoin evangelists like Roger Ver and Ben Reeves.”
Cryptomedication further added that in 2015, CZ was working at OKCoin when there was a contract dispute between OKCoin and Roger Ver regarding a contract for leasing of bitcoin.com by Roger Ver to OKCoin. The Twitter thread continued:
“Interestingly, @cz_binance , whom was *intimately involved* with the contract for leasing http://bitcoin.com from Ver to OKCoin (he inked the deal). He got out of dodge before shit really hit the fan though (interestingly).”
The alleged controversy revolved around CZ’s signature being on two different versions of the contract, but with the same timestamp, prompting many to speculate foul play. CZ had later claimed that he wasn’t aware of two different versions in the document.
CryptoMedication went on the say that after the leasing controversy, Ver reinforced certain terms of the contract, which later ended up being a new dispute causing Roger Ver to enter litigations. During this time, OKCoin denied all of Ver’s allegations, while at the same time being suspicious of CZ for his alleged involvement in the entire fiasco. The thread continued:
“Of course, we all know that after @cz_binance left OKCoin in 2015, he later went on to start @binance in 2017. Of course, one of his earliest (seed) investors was none other than *drumroll* @rogerkver ! These guys are really good buddies, it seems.”
The research website claimed that it could be “speculated aloud” that this camaraderie was a key factor in CZ’s Binance delisting Bitcoin SV, the rival camp of Roger Ver’s Bitcoin Cash, from its platform.
