IOTA announced the launch of its Trinity desktop wallet app via a Medium post this weekend. The app has launched in beta after months of development and can be downloaded via the IOTA website. IOTA have suggested that Windows Smart Screen could initially flag the wallet, so users have been advised to not focus on the message until Microsoft records a sufficient number of downloads.
The Trinity mobile wallet was launched in May of this year.
What Does the Desktop Wallet Pack-In?According to the company’s blog post, the new desktop wallet comes with an optimized UX from the mobile wallet and new themes. It wrote:
“The mobile UX has been optimized for desktop with some neat additions, while maintaining a familiar flow. The app has again been audited to assure its security. And following user feedback, we have developed a new default theme for desktop and mobile, adding to our range of themes.”
The wallet is available on the Trinity website, along with audit reports, FAQ and a help center for users. The website also features a roadmap which includes upcoming features.
Windows May Flag the AppIOTA warned users that Windows could initially flag the app. It stated:
“Trinity Desktop on Windows is signed with the IOTA Foundation code-signing certificate, which needs to have a positive reputation in order to pass the Smart Screen filter.”
To check the security and authenticity of the app, users can manually check the certificate by “right-clicking the application icon and opening “Properties”. Then on the “Digital Signatures” tab, you can find detailed information about the “IOTA Stiftung” signature.”
According to IOTA, as soon as enough users download the wallet, the warning messages will stop. The code for the mobile and desktop wallets can be found on GitHub, and the IOTA Foundation has urged developers to explore the code.
The app will mark a new age in wallet usability and define IOTA’s role in designing secure solutions for a variety of use cases. This was marked by IOTA’s decision to join the Organizations in Consortium to Explore Distributed Ledger Technology for New Mobility Ecosystem. The consortium features top automakers like Renault, BMW, General Motors, and Ford, among other partners.
