Hyperledger, the open source collaborative effort designed to advance cross-industry blockchain tech, recently announced that 16 new members had joined the project.
The announcement was made on day one of the Hyperledger Global Forum in Basel, Switzerland. Among the new members were Citi, Alibaba Cloud, we.trade and Deutsche Telekom.
Welcoming New MembersHyperledger’s executive director Brian Behlendorf, commented on the new members, saying:
“Growing Hyperledger community reflects the increasing importance of open source efforts to build enterprise blockchain technologies across industries and markets. The latest members showcase the widening interest in and impact of DLT and Hyperledger.”
Other members of the Hyperledger initiative include BlockDao (Hangzhou) Information Technology, KEB Hana Bank, Techrock, Guangzhishu (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd, HealthVerity, Xooa, MediConCen, and Guangzhou Technology Innovation Space Information Technology Co., Ltd.
Why Does Hyperledger Matter?The multi-project now has over 260 members who are working together on advanced blockchain solutions. The members provide both organizational and governance resources and collaborate when contributing “to develop and maintain the code for the frameworks and tools.”
Hyperledger enables organizations to build more robust blockchain solutions for industry-specific applications, hardware systems, and platforms to support enterprise-grade processes working on open-sourced distributed ledger frameworks.
Alibaba’s head of cloud application service YI Li said that they are delighted to join Hyperledger. Li said that Alibaba Cloud is one of the top three laaS service providers in the world and is looking to provide the best possible service to their customers. Li said:
“Alibaba Cloud’s Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) is dedicated to providing a worldwide beneficial and trusted infrastructure. While concentrating on the underlying technology, we would also like to invite more partners to join us and co-create a greater blockchain business world.”
BlockDAO COO Jerry Li called Hyperledger an important symbol of the company’s development route. He said:
“BlockDAO is an independent blockchain technological community supported by OSChina, that aims to provide community services with code examination and development to blockchain projects. We will provide code support and security for the development of the blockchain industry. We’re very excited to now be a part of Hyperledger.”
Citi Ventures Head of innovation network & emerging technology, Beth Davin said:
“We believe blockchain has the potential to drive new forms of efficiency and develop new markets, and are pleased to join the Hyperledger project to advance our exploration.”
