BigQuery, the big-data analytics branch of Google, decided to enable blockchain searches for Ethereum Classic under the radar as part of a group of other crypto networks that they will allow to do the same. With this new search ability, technologists and developers can easy search through the blockchain to find the information they need for different tasks.
There are many other changes that the ETC community is moving along right now to try and adapt to a greater reach for the marketplace. Right now, the Crypto-Economics Explorer shows as only having 1% of network activity that Bitcoin shows, with only three times that amount of GitHub developer benchmarks.
Edilson Osorio Junior, a Brazilian entrepreneur that also acts as the CEO of OriginalMy, spoke with CoinDesk on the addition, saying it will be easier for this blockchain voting startup to look for certain information. He added,
“Retrieving from BigQuery will be so fast, so I don’t need any more to have a local database to be redundant.”
He added that even though they will still be hosting their own nodes, the platform has clients that will need quick information that can easily be accessed with the Explorer, like the Brazilian Fintech Association.
In 2018, OriginalMy brought in $60,000 from these searches, which could increase with a faster response. They are also involved in the Ethereum Classic Labs startup accelerator program, though the demo day will not be until April this year.
The director of developer relations at ETC Cooperative, Yaz Khoury, said that Google has been paying attention to the need for additional use cases. Speaking about Google, Khoury said, “They approached me.” He added that the support of BigQuery is about
“merging the gap between people who are very familiar with the blockchain data structure” and technologists who are more familiar with querying other types of data.”
Presently, the director is already using the program as a way to show ownership distribution outside of exchanges. At this point, users can seek out ETC blockchain data throughout all of the BigQuery products. Ultimately, the platform hopes to offer help to other technologists that may not have the crypto experience of others.
OriginalMy was one of the participants of a startup residency that Google offered in 2017, prior to their participation in the present ETC Labs accelerator. Perhaps with this kind of participation from others in the market, additional ETC-focused startups will get the activity that would urge other projects to develop like this one.
Elizabeth Kukka, a director at ETC Labs, said that the first round of teams that the accelerator took on was broad, going from startups that already are looking for Seed A round to projects that are still in the pre-seed stage. This first grouping was more like the Ethereum ecosystem created with ConsenSys Ventures and the Tachyon incubator program.
ETC Cooperative has been the recipient of multiple donations from the Ethereum Foundation as well. Still, to truly thrive in their cross-industry partnerships, the responsibility of developing their own support system needs to be taken on.
The marketing director for ETC Labs, Dean Pappas, said that the goal now is to add on IOHK as one of the institutional partners. Pappas has said,
“Just like we see Blockstream informing most of bitcoin’s development. We see ETC Labs trying to be that.” He added, “We think that this cooperation will lead to faster deployment.”
