France taking the world cup home was not the only highlight in the just ended world cup finals, well this is for the various blockchain enthusiasts. There was a surprise for the community, especially when they saw that IBM was airing there IBM blockchain ad while the 2018 world cup was still ongoing.
More On The IBM Blockchain AdvertisementThe company was able to design an ad that was able to outline some of the benefits that blockchain technology is able to offer in the smart supply management solution. The announcement was able to point out the various uses of the blockchain technology when it comes to multiple industries such as food, proper shipment tracking and even precious stones.
But all this does not come as such a big surprise, as we know, IBM is continuously networking to ensure they effectively push there blockchain solution to the multiple industries that are available. The two significant use cases that IBM has made sure it is driving is the proper tracking and also effective Supply Chain Management.
In April this year, the company has already been able to release another advertisement that was showing the use of the blockchain technology, specifically in the tracking of the origin of a single Kenyan coffee. The advertisement went ahead and explained how the coffee is being tracked all the way from the Kenya farms, how it is safely transported in the ocean and finally gets to your local coffee shop.
For the tracking and Supply Chain Management System that is blockchain based, the company has gone ahead to pitch the current use of the HyperLedger blockchain. It is designed as an open source blockchain technology thanks to the Linux Foundation. To date IBM has not been in a position to pitch to the other existing commercial blockchain industries, this is apart from the Stellar platform, even though the company has a significant interest with them.
IBM and Stellar Lumens went into a partnership in the year 2017; this is to ensure that they create an efficient cross-border payment solution that could be used by the banks.
What Happened With The Partnership Between Stellar Lumens And IBM?In 2017 Stellar and IBM partnered to ensure they created a cross-border payment solution for the various financial institutions in the market this is with the use of Stellar Lumens tokens. They went ahead to name it the Universal Payment Solution, UPS. This payment solution is still live in the South Pacific and has been able to match about 13 currencies and even established seven different trade lines.
In 2018 we should expect to see a name change taking place in the second quarter, so that means the Universal Payment Solution name will be immediately dropped. Some of the bank partners that IBM has gotten involved with thanks to their payment solution include Bank Danamon Indonesia, Bank Mandiri, Bank Permata, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, National Australian Bank, Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. The Philippines, just to name a few.
IBM is indeed making use of the blockchain technology to provide with the needed solution to ensure transactions run smoothly. In that case, we should ensure to keep an eye on this company.
