Critics Accuse Vitalik Of Promoting BCash; The Ethereum Founder Begs To Differ

Recently, Cofounder of Ethereum Foundation and Bitcoin Magazine Vitalik Buterin attended a private event hosted by the Blockchain at Berkeley student-run organization held in San Francisco.

Even though the event was supposed to be pretty tame, aimed to provide insights into major topics currently facing the crypto community; controversies followed.

Speaking on the future of crypto, the conversation naturally edged towards regulation, with Buterin hypothesizing that regulation must support the ability to spend a nominal amount of cryptocurrency in everyday use, although he isn’t using Bitcoin or Ethereum, but Bitcoin Cash instead:

“I want to be able to walk into a convenience store, get a card and pay a small fee to start using Bitcoin Cash. Allowing people to use small amounts of cryptocurrency for everyday use is valuable within crypto, and also particularly for use cases of blockchain that go beyond crypto. Even non-financial blockchain use cases still require transaction fees. If we can reduce this friction with one trip to the convenience store, it would be simple to start using cryptocurrency.”

Prominent crypto Twitter account @WhalePanda was quick to notice this and pointed out :

However, Vitalik says that this was due to transcription error and that there were several others in the article Forbes.

Wait what? That looks like a transcription error. There are plenty of transcription errors in the forbes article, eg.

Vitalik went ahead to prove that he had been misrepresented by sharing link of the video. Vitalik even asked @WahlePanda to be a little more anti-authoritarian and not to “trust MSM, always check primary sources.”

However, even after watching the video, @WhalePanda did not seem convinced and called out Vitalik for his cozy relationship with Dr. Craig S Wright then shared a picture of Vitalik holding a T-shirt with “BCH Gang” written.

It is evident that Vitalik had been wrongfully quoted by Forbes, however, this incidence and the response of users on Social Media marks is a product of a bigger problem in the current crypto ecosystem – the ongoing rivalry between the two of the top cryptocurrencies.
