Uniswap Labs has launched a groundbreaking bug bounty program, unveiling what it claims to be “the largest bounty in history” in preparation for the upcoming release of Uniswap v4.

The program, which is already live, offers a record-breaking $15.5 million reward to anyone who uncovers critical vulnerabilities in the code of its upcoming Uniswap v4 release.

The bug bounty program invites security researchers and white-hat hackers to identify flaws or exploits that could affect the stability and security of the Uniswap v4 smart contracts.

The bug bounty comes after a previous $2.35 million security competition, where more than 500 researchers participated in testing the unreleased Uniswap v4 but did not uncover any critical vulnerabilities.

According to Uniswap Labs, the new bounty program represents an “extra step” in their efforts to ensure that the v4 release is as secure as possible.

By offering such a large-scale bounty, the platform aims to foster greater collaboration from the global security research community, minimizing the risk of any exploits at launch.

Uniswap Labs is positioning the program as the most extensive bug bounty ever offered, surpassing previous records set by platforms such as Immunefi, which in 2021 paid out $14.82 million in bounty rewards as part of its ongoing security measures.

Other tech giants like Google and Microsoft also have notable bug bounty programs, with payouts of $605,000 for a vulnerability discovered in 2022 by Google and $4 million offered by Microsoft for vulnerabilities related to cloud and AI security.

However, Uniswap’s $15.5 million bounty, if claimed in full, will set a new benchmark for the cryptocurrency sector.

The bounty program specifically targets vulnerabilities in the core contracts of Uniswap v4, but it also extends to other components, including the v4 wallet code, backend systems, and additional smart contracts.

Payouts will vary depending on the severity of the vulnerability, with “critical” vulnerabilities attracting the highest rewards of $15.5 million.

Researchers who identify vulnerabilities rated as “high” could be eligible for payouts up to $1 million, while “medium” risk findings will earn up to $100,000.

“Low” risk vulnerabilities, although less financially rewarding, will still be considered for discretionary payouts of $2,000.

As the DeFi ecosystem continues to grow, the Uniswap v4 release is highly anticipated for its enhanced functionality and potential to transform decentralized exchanges.

With this historic bounty, Uniswap is taking proactive measures to safeguard its platform and solidify its position as a leader in the decentralized finance space.
