UEFA Scores Successful Blockchain Ticketing Trial
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has started to make tests with the blockchain technology and it looks like its first tests have been successful. The organization created a mobile ticketing app which was created with the blockchain technology.
The app was created as part of an effort to make the act of buying tickets for soccer matches simpler and safer. The test was made on the UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and the Atletico de Madrid in Talinn, Estonia.
According to UEFA, the system is designed to provide a secure ticket distribution and specially to prevent the forgery of tickets and duplication, which can be made via the blockchain technology’s distributed ledger.
The app, which is available for Android and iOS, was used to distribute all the tickets for the game and, according to the institution, it worked very well. Using Bluetooth devices, people entering the stadium were able to prove that they had bought the tickets for the match.
UEFA Plans To Keep Using The AppAccording to the official reports, the full test was a success that only needs some more “fine-tuning and improvements” until it can be used for real. UEFA has plans to keep using the software in games all over Europe in the near future if the tests continue to be successful.
