It has recently been revealed that Tocqueville Group (TQ), a firm devoted to helping the Tezos ecosystem advance, has paired up blockchain educational platform B9lab, to offer a course dubbed, “Tezos Blockstars program”.

As per the Medium post shared by TQ themselves (https://medium.com/tocqueville-group/introducing-the-tezos-blockstars-program-with-b9lab-c3a48b36eada), the course is free of charge and has been created for those yearning to acquire the necessary skills to write up Tezos smart contracts and eventually, joining the Tezos ecosystem.

It seems like TQ first partnered with the Tezos Foundation to sponsor 250 developers – with the latter having to dedicate 20 hours of work per week.

To further promote Tezos ecosystem, TQ and the Tezos Foundation saw it crucial to approach a learning platform like that of B9lab, who have since trained over 14,000 developers within Ethereum and Hyperledger infrastructures. This naturally led the duo to become a trio, where B9lab now offers a Tezos developer course and a Tezos 101 course.

According to the President of TQ, Alison Mangiero, the course is an effort to find,

“the best and brightest developers and entrepreneurs to build Tezos. With the Tezos Foundation’s support of this project, a new cohort of developers will be able to build and innovate on the only major self-governing proof-of-stake blockchain operating and contribute to this growing community.”

B9lab has also shared their excitement in joining forces with the said team, given that they are always for educating investors of all levels on the specs and finest details of blockchain technology. Here’s what they had to share:

“We’re excited that we’re able to create this course with input from the Tezos Foundation, and that they share in our vision of making learning more accessible.”

Additionally, the Co-Founder of B9lab, Damien Ducourty, sees it fit to offer a Tezos course given its “established protocol” and the fact that the Tezos ecosystem is “at the cutting-edge of advancements in the blockchain space.”

As per B9lab’s post (https://blog.b9lab.com/250-more-opportunities-to-learn-with-tezos-6a8fb55c1578), those wanting to learn to develop Tezos, will be creating smart contracts in Michelson and Liquidity. The former is deemed a domain-specific language that is stack-based and ideal for formal verification, while the latter is a high-level language that “compiles to Michelson”.

For the course itself, investors/developers/consumers will not only acquire the necessary skills but will also be forced to take an exam and pass a project in order to obtain the required certificate. That is:

“The process is pretty much the same as our [B9lab’s] current Blockstars initiative – online selection, followed by Tezos developer course, then an exam window, followed by certification for those who’ve scored more than 80% in the final project. The Tezos developer course will be added to our ONE subscription offering after the Blockstars programme closes.”
