Early Bitcoin proponents and owners of the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss appeared for an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on popular discussion website Reddit this Monday.
The two asked Bitcoin investors to HODL and noted that they are committed to making a Bitcoin ETF product.
A Gemini Bitcoin ETF Could Still Become a RealityThe Winklevoss twins have proposed a Bitcoin ETF twice before, and both of their applications were rejected each time.
However, the two still believe in Bitcoin and are committed to launching a Bitcoin ETF product.
Cameron Winklevoss said that “We are committed as ever to making an ETF a reality!” during an hour-long conversation with Redditors in which readers posted over 250 questions and comments. They added that they are continuing to work on their Bitcoin ETF product.
The twins are some of the early proponents of Bitcoin and are thought to hold a large amount of Bitcoin themselves.
However, when asked about their Bitcoin holdings, Cameron only said that they don’t hold as many coins as Satoshi.
Confident About Bitcoin’s FateThe brothers said that they are still confident that Bitcoin will become mainstream, even after the value of the asset dropped by over 80% last year. Tyler added:
“We believe in the long game. Spartans hold!”
He noted:
“Our thesis around Bitcoin’s upside remains unchanged. We believe Bitcoin is better at being gold than gold. If we’re right, then over time the market cap of Bitcoin will surpass the ~7 trillion-dollar market cap of gold.”
Gemini exchange recently launched their own stablecoin GUSD (Gemini Dollar) which is fully backed by dollar reserves and pegged 1:1 to the USD.
The last time the two appeared in a Reddit AMA was in 2015.
In yesterday’s AMA, they talked about their initial experience with Bitcoin in 2012 and how they thought about creating an easy way to buy and sell digital assets.
The two also said that they want to turn Gemini into a company that runs for another 100 years.
