On Tuesday, the terrorist group Hamas asked its supporters to send funds in Bitcoin as an attempt to deal with being financially isolated.
According to the AFP, a spokesman for the group sent a message asking for the world’s most popular digital currency.
Hamas Finds a Financial Solution in BitcoinA spokesman from the “military wing” of Hamas sent out a message to its supporters saying:
“Support the resistance financially through the Bitcoin currency.”
He said that the exact way in which Bitcoin could be sent to the group would be announced later.
He also accused Israel of trying to cut the group’s access to finance.
Hamas is currently running Gaza, which it seized from its rival group called Fatah.
It is known as a terrorist organization by the United States as well as the European Union.
Banks have made sure they have no dealings with the group in recent years which has led to the financial problems it’s facing.
Nobody from the Bitcoin development team has commented on the statement yet.
Iranian Connection With HamasBitcoin has been criticized before for being used by underground websites on the dark web for dealing in guns, drugs and other illicit activities.
Iran is considered a Hamas supporter and a few weeks ago, it announced that it had allocated new homes in Gaza to the terrorists who were previously held in Israeli jails.
While Grand Mufti of Egypt suggests that the trading in Bitcoin is unlawful and incompatible with the Islamic Sharia Law, Iran is inching closer to launching its own cryptocurrency.
Financially isolated by the global banking system owing to sanctions from the US, Iran is now looking forward to launching a state-backed cryptocurrency based on Hyperledger fabric to circumvent the ban.
According to Al Jazeera, the currency will be rolled out in phases.
In the beginning, it would only be available to select banks and companies. However, later, it could be provided to citizens to pay for goods and services.
