Telegram App Could Launch Its Blockchain Platform As Soon As In March
Telegram could soon launch its mainnet and cryptocurrency. According to anonymous sources close to Telegram’s founder and CEO Pavel Durov, the network could be ready for March 2019. The network created by the popular messaging application is known as Telegram Open Network (TON) and was announced back in 2017.
The messaging application has around 200 million active users per month and it is one of the preferred means of communication among crypto enthusiasts all over the world. Back in 2018, the company was able to raise close to $1.7 billion in two private initial coin offering (ICOs). After it, the public ICO was cancelled.
The company has never revealed any information about when the platform could go live. Now, sources say that it could be launched as soon as March 2019. A few days ago, Durov commented to the Russian business media outlet The Bell that TON was 90 percent ready. However, some delays were possible due to the innovative features that they want to implement on the network.
Telegram has been restricted in many countries including Russia and Iran. According to Iran, the intention to develop this new token was an act against national security and a disruption to their national economy.
Although the application has been blocked in Russia, there are around 10 million users in the country that use the app using VPNs to avoid the restrictions. Durov explained that this is not a very big issue since the company is registering new users every single day.
The TON network would have many interesting new things and it is going to be a revolutionary cryptocurrency, according to what some reports informed back in 2018 and 2017. Nevertheless, there is no information about which are the most innovative things that the platform will be implementing.
Nonetheless, the TON network is going to be highly scalable and it will allow users on the platform to process transactions in an easy way.
