Coinbin, the South Korean Cryptocurrency exchange which took over hacked exchange Youbit, is filing for bankruptcy with losses equating to over $26 million. Cryptocurrency and Cash Transactions Stopped According to reports by Business Korea, the bankruptcy announcement was made by Coinbin CEO Park Chan-kyu on February 20, 2018.
The South Korean National Police Agency has produced a report of all hacking incidents of crypto exchanges and wallets in the country during the past three years. According to local media, there were seven hacking cases of crypto exchanges and 158 cases of wallet hacks, 91 of which happened this year.
The South Korean government has been criticized for not doing enough to help prevent hacking at cryptocurrency exchanges. Data obtained by the regulators show that three crypto exchanges were hacked, with damage of almost $1 billion, after having gone through an inspection by the government.
Following the announcement by South Korean crypto exchange Coinrail that it has been hacked, a local publication reported that some banks had identified suspicious transactions at the exchange and stopped providing services to company months before the incident.
