Seoul District to Add Blockchain Based Evaluation System for Administration Transparency

2019-1-17 00:13

Transparency is a very important characteristic of governments. Unless they can prove to the people that they are clear, fair and not corrrupt, people will not respect them. Because of this, the use of the blockchain technology in governments can be a good way to have a transparent administration.

Now, a district in South Korea’s capital, Seoul, has publicly announced that it would use the blockchain technology as a way to do just that: make the government’s administration more transparent for the citizens.

The district of Yeongdeungpo-gu, which is in Southwest Seoul, aims to strenghten the transparency of the current administration with an evaluation system that will be based on the blockchain technology. The system will mainly be used to avoid any kind of falsification of the bidding procedures of the administration.

All proposals will be stored on the blockchain for evaluation and there are already plans to expand the system to other departments in the government as well to other locations, which means that we will definetely see more blockchain-based projects for the administration in the country soon. All the plans are set to be used now, in 2019.

The district had already announced that it would use the blockchain for the first time last year but the plans were no so solid then as they are now. However, it looks like the pilot project is in a quite advanced phase now.

According to the local Korean media, the success of the project will determine whether more initiatives of the sort will become popular in the country or not, so all eyes are turned to the district to see whether it will be good or not.

In related news, South Korea’s military has announced plans to develop technologies using the blockchain that can help in the security of the country and the Ministry of Finance and Strategy has already started to research how to use the blockchain.
