Sam Bankman-Fried’s lawyers have appealed a judge’s decision to send him to jail while he is waiting to start trial over several allegations tied to the collapse of his former crypto exchange FTX on October 3, Reuters reports.

Federal prosecutors have fired back against Ryan Salame’s allegations that they reneged on agreements made in the former FTX executive’s plea deal – namely, that they would cease criminal investigations into Michelle Bond, Salame’s longtime partner and the mother of his child.
Ryan Salame, the former FTX executive sentenced to 7.5 years in prison in May, has withdrawn a legal request to a New York court asking that the conditions of his plea deal with prosecutors be enforced or that his plea be thrown out and his sentence vacated.
Former FTX Director of Engineering Nishad Singh and former Chief Technology Officer Gary Wang are set to be sentenced this fall in the ongoing criminal case against what was once a global crypto exchange before it collapsed in historic fashion near the end of 2022.
As expected, Sam Bankman-Fried's legal team filed a notice of his intent to appeal his conviction on fraud and conspiracy charges. So far all we have is just the notice – the actual brief won't come for some time yet.
The stage is set for a federal judge to determine how long Sam Bankman-Fried may spend in prison. The U.S. Department of Justice and defense attorneys have now both filed their arguments, as well as statements from FTX creditors (from the prosecution) and Bankman-Fried's family and friends (from the defense).
Prosecutors recommended that a federal judge sentence FTX founder and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried to at least 40 and as many as 50 years in prison for his conviction on fraud and conspiracy charges tied to the collapse of what was once one of the world's largest crypto exchanges.
