Since its debut on August 4, 2021, the Ethereum Improvement Protocol (EIP) 1559 has been an integral feature of the London Hard Fork. The major goal of this upgrade is to stabilize the excessive gas fees that are caused by scalability issues with Ethereum’s proof-of-work (POW) network.

The Ethereum network is undergoing a series of upgrades that will ultimately migrate it from the energy-intensive proof-of-work (PoW) mechanism to being a proof-of-stake (PoS) network. The latest in the series is the London hard fork which as planned is supposed to launch on the mainnet on August 5. It is also hoped that the […]

In a bid to save the Ethereum mining community, a group known as the Ethereum Genesys Foundation (EGF) successfully hard forked the chain to continue Proof-of-Work (PoW) mining. With the ETH 2. 0 upgrade well underway, the switch to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) would render miners redundant.

Coinbase recently published an article regarding security for Proof of Work (PoW) blockchains. While discussing the topic of ASIC resistance, Coinbase criticized such an approach, highlighting Monero’s need to hard fork every 6 months a significant burden that may not be worth it just to block out ASIC miners.

Recent analysis shows interesting patterns on the nonce distribution of Monero and Ethereum. According to the latest CoinMetrics report, on applying nonce analysis to the most popular privacy coin, Monero, when network difficulty and the scheduled hard forks [that tweaked the PoW algorithm] were overlaid, it was observed that all three PoW upgrades led to […] The post Ethereum, Monero exhibit interesting nonce distribution patterns appeared first on AMBCrypto.

Monero developers are set to fork the network in their continued efforts to brick application specific integrated circuit (miners) on the blockchain. The move should significantly lower hash rate allowing small-scale mining operations running graphics processing units (GPUs) to compete favorably and make the network’s PoW algorithm less ASIC-friendly.

Coin holder voting, both for governance of technical features, and for more extensive use cases like deciding who runs validator nodes and who receives money from development bounty funds, is unfortunately continuing to be popular, and so it seems worthwhile for me to write another post explaining why I (and Vlad Zamfir and others) do not consider it wise for Ethereum (or really, any base-layer blockchain) to start adopting these kinds of mechanisms in a tightly coupled form in any significant way.
