On July 11 a local action group formed an unannounced protest which featured a Batman-esque Bitcoin logo being shined upon the exterior of Slovakia’s Central Bank. The group claiming responsibility is a the Slovak faction of a Czech cryptocurrency group called the Paraleni Polis. The Bartislava-based group reportedly owns a number of cafes and crypto hubs, and most notably operates the Cryptoanarchy Institute.
News of the Bitcoin Bat Signal spread on Thursday after the Paraleni Polis posted video of the event on their Instagram.
“Slovak banks, instead of embracing the unlimited possibilities of cryptocurrencies and supporting the emerging crypto companies, due to state regulators or unclear legislation remain in the darkness,” reads the post. “A witch hunt for crypto companies and blocking transactions to crypto exchanges continue. The (en)light(enment) to the banks is an attempt to overcome the darkness, which, like in the 15th century, prevented revolutionary book technology to establish, now in the 21st century, is threatening the rise of a new blockchain decentralized era.”
While Slovakia’s government might be slow to move on cryptocurrency, other Eastern European country’s are actively working to attract blockchain businesses through similar grandiose displays. Below is a photo from a new Bitcoin monument at a roundabout in Slovenia’s fourth-largest city, Kranj
This monument was created by the local government of Kranj in partnership with a number of fintech startups and cryptocurrency exchange, Bitstamp.
CCN first reported on this story writing the following
“By revealing the commemorative monument, Slovenia will create and send into the world a message that emphasises its openness to digitization, its susceptibility to the use of new technologies and its hospitality towards progressive thinking, which aims not only at the optimization of everyday life, but also at interpersonal trust, transparency and cooperation,” the project’s backers said in a statement. “To local residents it will be a reminder of connectivity and of openness to new things — the foundations of a quality life in the future.”
CCN also reported that a campaign has started in the Ukraine to erect a statue of Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, in Kiev where a monument of Vladimir Lenin, the founder of the Soviet Union once stood before it was torn down by protesters in the 2014 Ukranian revolution.
