Famous Bitcoin Wallet Samourai Stops Offering Support to Fiat Conversions
The popular and famous Bitcoin Wallet Samourai, announced that it has removed all fiat conversions on the platform. This is a measure that might seem not beneficial for the crypto ecosystem, but the company believes that it is the best way for users to start using the native token to the Bitcoin network, BTC.
The company explained that they know that this could be somehow inconvenient for some users but they are sure that this is fundamental for the future of the space. About it, they mentioned:
“All fiat currency conversions have been removed from Samourai Wallet. We understand this may inconvenience some, it may even be enough to cause us to lose some users, but we believe it is fundamental that our existing and future users understand that when they transact within the Bitcoin network, when they participate in the Bitcoin economy, they are transacting with the token native to the Bitcoin network, BTC, and nothing else.”
The project has also unveiled that it will be supported in 12 different languages, including French and Chinese as well. Other languages supported are Bulgarian, German, Indonesian, Italian; Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. The wallet informs that they experienced a growing number of downloads when they added native language support to their product.
Back in 2015, when the Samourai wallet was launched, they believed that it was convenient to use fiat currencies. This allowed users to learn what BTC is and how it works.
The company explained that in 2017, users and news outlets were referring to bitcoin transactions in USD terms rather than strictly in BTC. The team behind Samourai Wallet is sure that with education, people would eventually change and start to think in BTC terms.
However, they will leave only one concession related to independent merchants that use the ‘Sentinel Watch Only app’ and in some use cases that require the currency conversion function.
