Popular Children’s Horror Series Mentions Bitcoin
A Reddit user recently shared an extract from, Goosebumps, a popular series of children’s horror fiction novels by author, R.L. Stine. The twist? It had mentioned ‘Bitcoin’ in it and this will obviously shock consumers considering the fact that the book is typically written for children.
More specifically, the extract described a situation in which two friends – Sam and Sonny – who find a secret passage, which contained a “crate”. As Sam pulls the crate towards him, he trusts that it might contain “gold, diamonds and bitcoins,” to which Sonny replies:
“Bitcoin are a crypto-currency. They’re not actual coins, they’re virtual coins. See, it starts with a process known as mining…”
Several reddit users have since expressed awe in what was discovered. The extract seems to have been shared by a user dubbed, ‘Oracle_of_Knowledge’, who claims that the book was written in 2008 – which would have naturally confused investors given that the network’s revelation only took place in 2009.
As more and more comments came pouring in, Oracle_of_Knowledge disclosed that it was a joke along. The mention on Bitcoin was not found in a 2008 Goosebumps, but rather a 2018 Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween Movie Novel, which was released nearly two weeks ago.
This definitely shows how far Bitcoin has come and the different mediums through which they are reaching the general public. Clearly, R.L. Stine wants children to get a heads up on the digital asset and its respective technology, which could be of benefit.
