Popular web browser, Opera, has launched a full-scale Web3.0 browser platform aimed at integrating several technological demands of cryptocurrency users into one browser. The company disclosed on Wednesday in a blog post that its latest release is a dedicated web browser with full cryptocurrency and blockchain functionality. Part of its statements read:

“Too few of the web browsing experiences offered today have been built with the intention of putting Web3 centerstage and making blockchain technologies understandable and easy to use.”

Opera web3 browser features

A step up from the traditional browsers with crypto wallet compatibility, the new project, now in its beta stage will give users first-hand access to “the latest blockchain news, upcoming airdrops, an industry events calendar, NFTs, crypto communities, educational content, podcasts and videos as well as crypto processors, gas fees and market sentiment — all in one spot.”

Just like the Coinbase and Mastercard partnership which makes buying and selling possible with a few clicks and a credit card, Opera is also looking to let users access their “cryptos or sign into apps directly from the browser.” Aware of growing copy-to-clipboard malware attacks that resulted in million-dollar losses, Opera will add a self-monitoring secure copy to clipboard structure, native VPN, and user track blocker and the possibility of a layer 2 support by the next upgrade.

Web3 and other internet browsers

Opera’s first stint into Web3 took off in 2018 when the fifth-biggest web browser began integrating crypto wallets. Today it has spurred bigger crypto integration innovations among other browsers. Popular within the Web3 space is Brave, the sixth biggest browser, which expanded its global use after the release of a wallet-integrated browser version. Brave also rewards users for their time spent on watching ads with its Ethereum-based native browser token, Basic Attention Token.

Closely following Brave is Osiris, the third-largest blockchain browser, which became notable for its promise to pioneer anonymous browsing and data privacy protection. The browser touts itself as a zero-ad browser, thanks to its Osiris Armour integration system. This is quite interesting, seeing how other browsers make a ton of profit from consumer data siphoning and ad hosting. Like Brave, Osiris also has its native token, Ace, and has established a seamless Tron integration which will see users process TRX transactions with ease.

While Chrome and Edge, the two biggest browsers, remain missing from the Web3 action, their presence is highly felt in the race towards developing Metaverse and IoT.

With yesterday’s addition of Zcash (ZEC), popular exchange service Coinbase has more than doubled its cryptocurrency lineup in 2018 – and by the looks of it, the trend is here to stay. Up until August, Coinbase supported a narrow inventory of cryptocurrencies on its flagship desktop and mobile apps, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH), the last one of which was added last December.

Microsoft is reportedly building a Chromium-based browser to replace Edge

Windows Central reports that Microsoft is working on a replacement for its Edge web browser – which is the default option in Windows 10 – that will use Google’s Chromium base under the hood. If that’s legit, it’ll see Microsoft swap out the EdgeHTML engine it built from scratch for the one that’s part of the open source Chromium base, and powers Google Chrome, Opera, and Brave.
