NiceHash CEO Quits
NiceHash, a Slovenian mining service, has a new CEO, which took his position as head of the company after it lost $63 million in a significant hack in 2017. The platform then relaunched in December and the news media understood that the previous CEO, Marko Kobal, had recused himself form the position. In a statement on LinkedIn, he stated:
“As you are aware, since the recent security breach we at NiceHash have been working around the clock to rebuild our internal systems as well as management structure. I shall now stand aside and allow new management to lead the organization through its next, exciting period of growth – therefore I decided to resign as CEO of NiceHash.”
Hackers were able to steal 4,000 BTC in total. Notwithstanding the hack’s seriousness, Kobal seemed confident that the platform would be able to operate at the same capacity as it had before. NiceHash is not the only platform to face a major hack – actually, 2017 was a ripe year for such activity in the cryptocurrency industry. Another notable platform that had faced a hack was Korea’s Youbit. After the hack, it had to declare bankruptcy.
