Wu-Tang Clan Themed Crypto On The Horizon
In March 2018, performing artist Young Dirty, son of late Wu-Tang Clan member Ol' Dirty Bastard (ODB) spoke about his plan to create a fan-centric cryptocurrency, built on top of the TAO blockchain network and traded on the AltMarket exchange. Now, the plan is becoming a reality with public pre-sale beginning this week.
The idea is that ODBCoin (formerly known as Dirty Coin) will be the first of a planned series of artist-branded cryptos developed and distributed. Rather than serving as vehicles for investment, the tokens are intended to act as a kind of incentive for fans of artists like Young Dirty, allowing them to be spent at shows or on merchandise.
ODBCoin is the first of its kind listed on AltMarket. AltMarket is a new peer-to-peer (P2P) trading platform. It intends to run IAOs with the purpose of connecting artists and fans through cryptocurrency and entertainment combined, starting with this coin.
The AltMarket exchange will allow users to buy and sell popular and highly-liquid cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and TAO as well as engage in forex trading. Over time, AltMarket will consider additional cryptocurrencies and investment vehicles as the market demands, and as regulation evolves. IAOs will benefit artists through fundraising and community building. And fans will have access to exclusive access to events, tours, merchandise, and more. Buying into an artist’s IAO is a new way to support them while joining a community founded upon entertainment and emerging tech.
ODBCoin is just an evidence of what’s to come for AltMarket. Specifically, the future of entertainment may be digital currency and blockchain technology. The music industry is subject to fraud like illegal streaming, ticket fraud, scalping, intellectual property breach, which Ticketmaster is trying to curb with blockchain. This makes it harder for artists to make a living off of their craft.
