Crypto.com has sealed a multi-year partnership with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. As part of the deal, the crypto exchange will support the LeBron James Family Foundation I PROMISE program that looks to educate children on Web3 and blockchain.
LeBron James And Crypto.com To Introduce Web3 Education To Schoolchildren In Akron (Ohio)
A report by Akron Journal has indicated that LeBron James and his namesake foundation have entered into a partnership with Crypto.com. While the terms of the partnership were not disclosed, Crypto.com will be responsible for creating Web3-focused content for students in addition to providing financial support to the foundation. The students will also be taught about blockchain technology and the related careers that they can select.
James said in a statement that this initiative aims to ensure that school children in his hometown Akron were not left behind in the digital revolution.
“Blockchain technology is revolutionizing our economy, sports and entertainment, the art world, and how we engage with one another. I want to ensure that communities like the one I come from are not left behind.”
The Foundation is presently helping more than 1,600 students in Akron, Ohio by giving them the necessary resources and mentoring so that they can attain impressive high school grades. At the moment, at least 1,100 students from the Foundation are already enrolled in the I PROMISE program.
This deal comes after Crypto.com paid a cool $700 million to secure a 20-year naming rights agreement for the home of James’ Los Angeles Lakers, the Staples Center. The iconic venue was renamed the Crypto.com Arena.
Commenting on the partnership, Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek said they were delighted to partner with LeBron James and his foundation to contribute to “educational and workforce development while delivering the tools and access that will empower the next generation to build a better and more inclusive future.”
Crypto.com has been on a marketing drive in the sports world in recent months. Besides LeBron, the exchange has also previously partnered with Formula 1 and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Still, not all of its customers are happy about the high-profile LeBron James partnership. One user, for instance, pointed out that Crypto.com has been extremely lax regarding customer care as some customers are yet to be compensated for the losses incurred during the latest hack on the exchange.
