Popular domain registrar, Namecheap, will now be accepting Bitcoin payments through BTCPay as payment for its services from any Bitcoin wallet. According to the announcement on September 18, payments can now be processed and facilitated by the crypto service provider, BTCPay, in addition to the existing payment provider, BitPay.
Namecheap was one of the earliest domain registrars and web hosting service providers to accept Bitcoin. While commenting about the adoption of BTC as a payment option on the platform in 2013, Richard Kirkendall, the CEO of Namecheap, stated,
“We are proud to be the first major registrar to introduce Bitcoin into our line up of payment options. We here at Namecheap have always believed in a free and open internet. Bitcoin, which is considered by many to be the model of a ‘free and open’ currency, fits perfectly into that way of thinking.”
Addition of BTCPayUsers of Namecheap products will now have the option of adding up to $100,000 into the accounts in Bitcoin through BTCPay. Once a deposit has been made using this option, users won’t be in a position to withdraw it. The platform doesn’t have any OFAC restrictions. At the moment, Namecheap supports other payment options such as Paypal, VISA, Mastercard, AliExpress, and Google Checkout.
BTCPay is an open-source crypto payment processor that facilitates Bitcoin payments at zero fees. The BTCPay server provides a self-hosted platform that eliminates the need for third parties. It has an innovative Point of Sale (PoS) app that allows direct processing directly to a user’s wallet. Other useful apps available on BTCPay include Lapps and the crowdfunding app.
