A new software development kit (SDK) released by Unity will allow indie developers to monetize their mobile games with the digital currency KIN.
KIN was created last year by the “messaging app Kik and its Kin Ecosystem Foundation.”
Games that utilize the Kin SDK for Unity would enable players to earn, spend and tip with KIN crypto while playing.
Unity Moves Towards CryptoUnity is the largest gaming engine in the world, and the platform’s new support for digital currencies in creating, promoting and monetizing games could provide a major boost for crypto adoption, especially the Kin cryptocurrency.
Kin is aiming to build a gaming ecosystem and improve social interactions that help developers grow sustainable social communities in their games.
The SDK for KIN is available for developers in the Unity Asset Store.
Developers can use KIN to enhance user experiences by rewarding social interactions, therefore creating ‘stickier’ social networks.
Studios will also be able to purchase extra KIN to boost into their in-game economies to promote growth.
Bold Move by the Kin FoundationThe Kin Foundation is closely tied with the popular app Kik messenger.
With the addition of KIN on the Unity game engine, the Kin blockchain will handle all of the tokenized in-game activities including the wallet and real-time account creation.
The blockchain network uses a similar system to the Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) model which is being used by the EOSIO blockchain.
The network is more centralized than Bitcoin or Ethereum but also provides quicker transactions which could help it to avoid a fate similar to Ethereum when CryptoKitties choked the entire blockchain.
Talking to TNW, a Kin spokesperson said:
“Yes, everything is happening on-chain. This includes earning, spending, and peer-to-peer (sending and receiving) transactions.”
Kin suggests that its blockchain network can handle more than 100 transactions per second. Note that the Kin blockchain is a fork of Stellar.
Their spokesperson suggests that the fork was made to create more stability and for handling high volumes of transactions.
