The city of Miami is planning to host the largest crypto conference to date this week. The event “Bitcoin 2021” seeks to celebrate the blockchain and explore technical improvements, all while giving people a chance to use BTC in real-life applications. The conference will take place at the Mana Convention Center in Miami’s Wynwood neighbourhood, and it is set to commence on June 3 and run through June 5.
The conference will feature multiple keynote speakers, including Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey, Miami’s pro-crypto Mayor, Francis Suarez. Allegedly, the event’s organizers expect it to attract more than 50,000 attendees, especially now that Miami is positioning itself as a crypto hub.
While the event was initially slated for April 30 to May 1 in Los Angeles, its organizers changed the venue and dates due to mounting concerns of California’s stern COVID-19 policies. Appreciative of this change, Albert Garcia, the Chairman, and Co-founder of the Wynwood BID said Wynwood was a perfect neighbourhood for hosting such an event. Explaining why he thought so, he said the neighbourhood’s tech scene has made significant progress over the past 10 years.
A unique platform to showcase Wynwood’s innovativenessHe added that being selected to host such a big event would cement the neighbourhood’s evolution into South Florida’s hub for artists and innovators. Garcia went on to note that Wynwood has displayed resilience since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and that it is now ready to welcome visitors, starting with this in-person event. For those that will grace the event, Garcia promises a rich experience that comprises open-air offerings of the Wynwood Arts District.
As part of the Bitcoin 2021 conference, its organizers have joined hands with one of their local partners BitBasel. Through this collaboration, the firm and the organizers have tasked local artists with creating a 120-inch mural that showcases BTC’s history, its change over time, and the impact it has had over the past few years. The artists and the organizers will then display the mural outside the venue from June 3 to 4.
This news comes as Miami continues working to become a crypto hub. This includes Mayor Suarez proposing to introduce a system that lets the city’s residents pay taxes and fees in BTC. The city’s private sector is also embracing the burgeoning asset class with Arte Surfside announcing that it would accept BTC as payment for its luxury residences.
