Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Volvo to Expand their Markets in Thailand via Japanese Chat App Line
World-renowned fashion and auto brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Volvo have turned to the Japanese chat app Line to embrace Thailand markets. According to Line Thailand chief commercial officer Norasit Sitivechvichit, during the second COVID-19 wave, the country’s interest in social commerce is growing. As the messaging app Line is much more popular in Thailand than Facebook‘s (NASDAQ: FB) WhatsApp and Rakuten’s Viber, the brands have chosen it to sell their products in the country.
Noting that the luxury category “was forced to adapt because their stores were closed,” Norasit Sitivechvichit said that during the pandemic, sellers became very active. Social commerce that was popular in Thailand before the pandemic, has become even more widespread with the coronavirus outbreak.
The lockdown in Thailand lasted for nearly two months. But the curfew has not prevented the Line chat app from increasing the number of its monthly active users in Thailand from 44 million to 47 million this year.
Line is by far the most popular messenger app in Thailand. After Japan, it is its second-largest market. Originally from Japan, it gained huge popularity within days after its launch in early 2012. Right now, it has almost 40 million active users in Thailand.
About Line Chat AppLaunched in 2012, the Line app allows users to exchange texts, images, video, and audio, as well as to conduct free VoIP conversations and video conferences. It also offers paid calls to mobile devices and landline users. Like WhatsApp and Viber, Line registers users using their mobile phone numbers. One of the main Kine’s features is stickers and emoticons. Many of which are available to purchase through the Theme Shop and Sticker Shop. Users can purchase stickers as gifts, with them stickers available as free downloads, depending on country availability. Then the stickers are attached to an account and are available on other platforms.
Initially, Line was a mobile application for Android and iOS smartphones. Since then, the platform has expanded to BlackBerry OS, Nokia Asha, Windows Phone, Firefox OS, iOS tablets, and as a Chrome Browser Application. Line has over 187 million monthly active users.
Line Debuted Crypto Lending Service with BitMaxRecently, Line introduced its cryptocurrency lending service. The service will allow users to lend crypto assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) to the firm’s Bitmax subsidiary and obtain rental fees. The interest on the loans will be incurred every day.
The service became available yesterday.
