Ledger Welcomes Polkadot, Kusama, Solana, Elastos, IOV, Now Available for the Nano X and S

As of today, Polkadot (DOT), Kusama (KSM), Solana (SOL), Elastos (ELA) and IOV are compatible with the Ledger Nano X and the Ledger Nano S. These third-party developed apps can now be installed through Ledger Live’s Manager, after which you can use the compatible third-party wallet application to manage them.

New Additions, More Choice

We’re thrilled to announce that you can now use your Ledger Nano X and Ledger Nano S to secure your Polkadot (DOT), Kusama (KSM), Solana (SOL), Elastos (ELA) and use the IOV naming service! This addition adds to the enormous variety of over 1500 crypto assets already supported. These additions are the result of our coin integration program, where communities and developers outside of Ledger’s can create and submit their own applications. All of these apps have been reviewed by us to ensure they meet the security requirements. We’d like to thank the third-party developers who have worked on the creation of these new applications – we’re very grateful!

These brand-new apps can be installed via the Ledger Live Manager. The cryptocurrencies are not yet supported in Ledger Live. Instead, the newly supported crypto assets can be managed through their compatible third-party wallet applications. Great news for Zilliqa users!

In addition to these five new applications now available for both the Ledger Nano S and the Ledger Nano X, we’ve also got an update for Zilliqa (ZIL) users. Previously, the ZIL app was only available for the Ledger Nano S. We’re happy to announce that as of today, the Zilliqa Ledger Nano X app is equally released and can be installed through Ledger Live’s Manager. We’d like to thank the third-party developers for creating an app for our next-gen hardware wallet as well! You can learn more about managing ZIL through a Ledger device here. 

Polkadot

Polkadot (DOT) is the latest addition to CoinMarketCap’s top 10 cryptocurrencies in terms of market capitalization, currently* sitting at #5. Polkadot describes itself as an open-source project that allows networks and applications to work together through it in a decentralized manner, and was founded by the Web3 Foundation. As of today, you can manage your Polkadot (DOT) with your Ledger device through a third-party wallet. You can learn more about this here. 

Kusama

Kusama (KSM) is strongly linked to the previously mentioned Polkadot, referring to it as its “cousin network” on their website. It’s network is described there as “an experimental development environment for teams who want to move fast and innovate on Kusama, or prepare for deployment on Polkadot”. As of today, you can manage your Kusama (KSM) with your Ledger device through a third-party wallet. You can learn more about this here. 

Solana

Solana (SOL) is a crypto asset whose blockchain is designed to host fast, secure and scalable decentralized apps (dApps) and marketplaces. It uses a unique consensus mechanism the team called Proof of History (PoH). You can learn more about Solana here.

As of today, you can manage your Solana (SOL) with your Ledger device through a third-party wallet. You can learn more about this here. 

Elastos

Elastos (ELA) is rather unique in its consensus mechanism, using a combination of the secure hash power of Bitcoin as well as leveraging delegated Proof-of-Stake. It aims to be an interoperable open-source platform that can not only be used for its native currency, but also serve as a decentralized data storage service and decentralized ID system. As of today, you can manage your Elastos (ELA) with your Ledger device through a third-party wallet. You can learn more about this here. 

IOV

Unlike the other releases today, IOV is a naming service operating on the Cosmos SDK. It allows you to purchase an alias – known as a Starname – for your cryptocurrency address through IOV tokens, after which you could use this as your receiving address provided you’re using a compatible wallet. As of today, you can use the IOV app by connecting your Ledger device to the Starname Manager. You can learn more about this here.
