Barclays’s Chief Crypto Brain ‘Chris Tyrer’ Leaves Firm
According to a trusted media outlet, Chris Tyrer, the man responsible for helping Barclays gain a foothold in the world of digital currencies, left the leading British financial institution earlier this week.
Tyrer, who was incharge of Barclays Plc’s digital assets project, was seen as a pioneer within the company’s ranks, especially since he helped the bank enter a nascent/volatile economic field which the UK based lender had never previously explored. It is also worth noting that, Matthieu Jobbe Duval, another key staffer who joined Barclays along with Tyrer still remains with the firm at the time of writing this article.
Earlier in April, Barclays had floated plans of launching a crypto trading desk to its core clientele. At the time, these ideas were still in their infancy but with Tyrer joining the UK based lender, the firm soon became one of the premier financial institutions along with Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, to enter this burgeoning market space.
With that being said, progress for large banks within the alt-coin domain has been slow since most financial institutions are being extremely cautious so as to avoid any misgivings associated with existing anti-money laundering or market manipulation laws.
Lastly, it is worth mentioning that up until December 2017, Tyrer was also in-charge of Barclays’s global energy-trading business program.
