According to the Reporter, Depp and Ierovino began their partnership with the project Waiting for the Barbarians, a novel adaptation. The film to be produced by AMBI and star Depp will begin shooting later this month in Morocco.
Getting Into Crypto-tainmentDepp will work with TaTaTu to produce both film and digital content for the platform under his company moniker Infinitum Nihil, which has produced films such as Hugo, Dark Shadows, and the Lone Ranger reboot.
Ieorovino said of the partnership:
“Johnny has the ability to conceptualize material in a way that few can, and is unburdened of conventional industry formulas that dictate the projects that get made, traditionally. As we make strides to embrace disruptiveness, Johnny will be a key collaborator with us and we are tremendously excited to back his visions and instincts on stories to bring to life.”
For his part, Depp appeared enthusiastic about the partnership as well, saying:
“I admire the imaginative ethos of Andrea and look forward to collaborating together in a liberating, progressive manner that will befit the principals of our respective entities.”
TaTaTu launched only six months ago, raising more than $500M over the summer with its token pre-sale, and has already signed on major names. Their biopic of director William Friedkin will see appearances from Matthew McConaughey, Quentin Tarantino, and Francis Ford Coppola, among others.
Paying For Your AttentionAccording to their website, TaTaTu rewards users for watching and sharing media content on their platform by paying them with its proprietary TTU token, while also paying people to create content on their platform. They also indicate that their service “provides full transparency on exactly how content generates revenue for all parties.”
The company has also built a social media element into the platform that rewards users for posts and reviews and recently launched a new beta version of its service. As of now, its movie selection appears limited to films produced just for TaTaTu, but game offerings include Call of Duty, Zelda, and Titanfall.
