The British-American founder of the software company McAfee Associates said on Sunday that it was all a ruse all along, though he says it was all for the crypto community, to onboard new users.

John McAfee made a bet in 2017 that Bitcoin will be worth $500,000 in 2020 or he will “eat his d!*k on national television.”
Later on, he changed his $500k prediction to $1 million and time and again doubled down on it.
Earlier last year, McAfee who is on the run from the US authorities again gave a hard date for his $1 million prediction, Dec. 31st, 2020, adding, “That's the only one I made. I never lose a bet.”
There is even a website called Dickline.info that tracks Bitcoin price’s growth towards McAfee’s target. As per this, BTC price is currently down 95.8% from the level it must be on, $174,087, in order to reach $1 million by this year’s end.
Currently, BTC/USD is trading at $7,522 as per Coincodex.
But as McAfee has now said, it has all been a ruse, apparently to attract more people to the industry.
Interestingly, McAfee will also be running for president in the 2020 presidential election which he first announced in June 2018. The main issue of his campaign however he said is to promote the use of cryptocurrencies.
The staunch supporter of Bitcoin has come to the world’s leading cryptocurrency’s defense after it was criticized by JP Morgan CEO, Jamie Dimon. McAfee said in September,
“You called bitcoin a fraud. I’m a Bitcoin miner. We create bitcoins. It costs over $1,000 per coin to create a bitcoin,”
“What does it cost to create a U.S. dollar? Which one is the fraud? Because it costs whatever the paper costs, but it costs me and other miners over $1,000 per coin. It’s called proof of work.”
Tweeting to his 1.1 million followers, he had said almost anyone could beat him in the Presidential race but, “what truly changes America is not the president, but the process of creating one.”
He said he would get to stand on the world's largest stage and talk to everyone.
