Attorney John E Deaton urged on Vitalik Buterin to condemn SEC actions against XRP. In a tweet, he praised the fact that the Ethereum founder supported the PoW ban. But, in his opinion, it would also be worth speaking out against what the SEC is doing with XRP.
He made the following arguments:
You are certainly aware that SEC lawyers have not limited the allegations to only include how and when Ripple sells XRP. The SEC claims ALL #XRP, including XRP traded in the secondary market, independent of Ripple, are all securities.
SEC lawyers are attacking the token itself. It is the single most dangerous argument the SEC could make. XRP holders w/ no connection to Ripple are being punished. Many of us also hold ETH and BTC. As a leader, it would be appropriate for you to decry the SEC’s actions.
