JD.com has created an open blockchain platform to ensure that customers are able to create and enjoy their own blockchain solutions. This Beijing-headquartered e-commerce organization wants to improve transparency, effectiveness and security of their customers’ operations.
How JD.com’s Newly Launched Platform Is BeneficialNamed as JD Blockchain Open Platform, it allows customers to streamline operations by providing the ability to trace the movement of their goods and settle transactions, amongst other things, as detailed on its corporate blog. Customers will further be able to “create and adjust smart contracts on private and public enterprise clouds very easily.”
JD.com built this new platform with a “one-click deployment” design so that it is easily accessible to enterprises even if they do not have the ability to create their own blockchain solutions. China Pacific Insurance Company (CPIC) is the first JD.com partner to utilize the open blockchain platform.
The newly launched JD Blockchain Open Platform consists of an application store that provides numerous blockchain bottom layers, as well as other tools and software, which are either developed by Independent Software Vendors or JD.com’s inhouse team. They promise to constantly enrich its application offerings by developing more ISVs and building a “robust ISV community” on the platform.
Jian Pei, head of big data and smart supply chain at JD.com, talks about the platform:
“JD Blockchain Open Platform is a culmination of the expertise and experience in blockchain technology that we initially developed for our own operations, to provide more visibility to consumers.”
He adds that they are pleased to get CIPC as JD.com’s first blockchain platform customer.
JD.com’s New Association With UnileverNews released by Freight Waves suggests that Rotterdam-headquartered Unilever has joined with Beijing-based JD.com to expand in China. Unilever brings personal care, beauty products and food merchandise to over 2.5 billion people every day. Now it wants to extend this mission in China.
JD.com’s partnership with Unilever is in line with its “Retail as a Service” strategy “in which the e-commerce company is offering its technology and infrastructure to other companies and organizations outside of its own e-commerce platforms.”
JD.com’s Dedication to Cutting-Edge Supply Chain TechnologyThe platform is known for creating several advanced supply chain technologies. It is now a member of the Blockchain in Transport Allowance (BiTA), the biggest blockchain alliance globally. The aim of the alliance is to strengthen the safety and security of supply chains in the world and encourage and develop blockchain standards for the logistics and freight sector.
