Decentralized cloud services provider io.net announced the support of Apple silicon chips clustering, allowing Apple users to distribute their unutilized computing power to the network. io.net, which deploys and manages on-demand, decentralized GPU clusters in the IO Network, the infrastructure layer of geo-distributed GPUs, becomes the first cloud service provider to offer such support to Apple’s M-series chips.
According to the team statement, io.net chose to support these next-generation silicon computing chips with the aim of expanding the development of machine learning (ML) applications and artificial intelligence (AI) programs.
“We are thrilled to be the first cloud service provider to support Apple chips for machine learning,” said io.net founder Ahmad Shadid. “This is a massive step forward in democratizing access to powerful computing resources, and paves the way for millions of Apple users to earn rewards for contributing to the AI revolution.”
Following the launch, Apple users will be able to onboard their devices to the network, just via a few clicks. Once onboarded to the network, they can provide their unutilized computing power on the decentralized cloud service and in return earn rewards via io.net’s orchestration layer and managed services.
In addition, this move opens up io.net’s platform to millions of Apple customers, providing access to even more computing capacity. This is expected to be beneficial in building the internet of GPUs and solve the compute shortage driven by the continued boom in AI and machine learning. By leveraging Apple chips, io.net’s decentralized computing services will provide engineers in AI/ML more access to lower-cost GPU computing options, further enhancing the growth of these technologies.
By supporting the wide range of Apple’s silicon chips, including M1, M1 Max, M1 Pro, M1 Ultra; M2, M2 Max, M2 Pro, M2 Ultra; and M3, M3 Max, M3 Pro, and M3 Ultra, io.net will benefit from the 3-in-1 enhanced chip –with these chips combining CPU, GPU and enhanced Neural Engine on a single chip. This results in a lower latency and higher data processing efficiency suitable for ML and AI applications.
Additionally, millions of Apple users will be able to earn from io.net by providing their unutilized computing power and engineers can deploy decentralized Apple chip clusters for the first time.
Finally, the powerful M3 chip line will further provide an advanced architecture, which is expected to enhance the speed and efficiency of executing machine learning models.
