Cardano (ADA) blockchain developer IOHK has announced the addition of a stake pool Metadata aggregation server SMASH into the Cardano ecosystem.
According to the announcement, the main reason for the launch of Smash is to enable IOHK to reduce the influence of bad actors such as trolls, spoof pools, and potential attackers.
But to simplify the choice of pool and keep track of information of the pool, IOHK says the data should be valid and relevant.
To take care of such needs, the Cardano developers have introduced a Smash server that offers support for ADA owners and operators by validating and storing details about stake pools as metadata.
The SMASH server will prevent duplicate ticker trademarksIn a more elaborate term, Smash will enable the registration of each pool with the metadata needed to determine the rewards. This includes the name of the pool, its homepage, a short description, and the owner data.
“It is therefore important to make this information visible and accessible,” IOHK reiterated.
Apart from making sure that the registered stake pools are legitimate, IOHK says the Smash metadata server prevents duplicate ticker trademarks or names. It also makes sure content the users may find offensive is not featured.
The server will be available to the publicPresently, the developers will have the responsibility of maintaining the platform and metadata aggregation on the Smash server.
There is also a way to handle bad actors in the pool. As stated, if bad actors are detected on the pool, they will be delisted from display immediately on Daedalus. IOHK reserves the right to decide what constitutes ill behavior in the pool. These will include inactive stake pools, intellectual property rights violations, impersonation, and malicious metadata content.
The Cardano Smash server aggregate, store, or retrieve Stake Pool metadata. Daedalus wallet is the first generation of Smash which was introduced and hosted by IOHK.
While the server will be centralized at IOHK, it may not offer a centralized solution. But the Smash server code uses open source technology, which means it could be utilized by anyone.
The new server will not limit any stake pool operation unfairly, according to IOHK. But, while the company has the final say about any decision on Smash, it will manage the platform using an open and more visible approach.
