There are speculations that popular photo sharing and image storage service, Imgur, might be Brave Browser’s new partner. This was stated by the Basic Attention Token community, who discovered a verification file that had tokens that favored Imgur.
Initially spotted by Reddit user, ggpurehope, he posted a Reddit thread about this where he showed he verification file, and figured it could be an indication of a likely partnership between both projects.
This speculation was further corroborated –somewhat- in a podcast by Brendan Eich, Brave’s CEO, who said that the project would soon be collaborating with a source that has over 80 million users of ad block tools and extensions.
Even though he didn’t outrightly say it, it’s becomingly increasingly clear that Imgur does fit that description. During the interview, Eich said,
“I’m going to tell a story about a site which has 80 million ad blocking unique visitors per month. It has many more non ad blocking but it has a high ad blocking instance, and they are ready to try something with us that would convert those ad blocker users, some of those whom are using the corrupt ad blockers I just mentioned to you, take [inaudible] to let ads through, they’re ready to convert those users to Brave users.
How The Partnership Between Both Parties Could be Mutually RewardingIf Brave is able to bring Imgur on board its project, this will do wonders for the BAT project, which has already succeeded in getting big companies like BitTorrent, Washington Post and the Guardian on board as partners.
Imgur’s 250 million users would drastically increase the BAT project’s visibility, with many using Brave Browser as the browsers will fit right in with the ad blocking tendencies of about 80 million of Imgur’s user base.
With this, users may have to pay a small token to continue using the service. This will help add to Imgur’s bottom line as they are currently making money from the ads that they serve to their users.
So, with the revenue generated from the 80 million users who aren’t allowing the ads run, Imgur should start recovering some of that lost revenue.
If this works, Imgur would be smart to start encouraging users to use the Brave Browser. This should earn them an extra $5 per sign up.
If Imgur is able to get even just 10 million members on board Brave browser, that’ll be an extra $50 million in revenue for the company –that’s more than the $40 million it generated from ads in 2017.
BAT and its Recent StatusThis is coming right on the heels of the deployment of the Circle platform, a project that’s backed by Goldman Sach and the BAT token getting listed on the Coinbase exchange platform. These series of good news will do wonders for the token’s value, making it a good buy right now.
Even right now, the BAT token has a good run this year, while the project itself has enjoyed considerable progress in the form of having 5 million active Brave browser users, and a tipping feature where individuals can send a small token as a means of appreciation to the team.
Of course, all this is still mere rumors and speculation. We’ll have to just keep our fingers crossed and see if the potential partner is Imgur.
