IBM and Travelport, two giants of the industry, have recently announced a new partnership. The companies are joining forces to launch the first AI travel platform that will intelligently manage corporate travel spend.
Travelport, which is a leading travel commerce platform, has introduced IBM Travel Manager. This platform will use artificial intelligence technology to help people who need to manage spending money during travels.
It will be created and delivered via IBM Cloud, which will use IBM Watson capabilities to intelligently track, manage and predict the costs of a travel. This can be huge in changing the ways that companies currently plan travels.
Basically, with the information that Travelport has and the technology of IBM, the companies will be able to collaborate on a way to develop solutions that can be used to make traveling cheaper and more easy to organize.
Elizabeth Pollock, IBM’s Travel and Transportation Industry Client Lead, and Mike Croucher, Travelport’s Chief Architect, have talked to Forbes during a recent interview in which they talked about this new partnership and the possible future that awaits us all.
Croucher has affirmed that traveling can be overwhelming for the average consumer and that using the technology to get more efficiency and to streamline the process is a good idea. According to him, if you look at the relationship of the company with IBM, you will see that it has lasted for a long time and IBM has been focused on the industry and supported Travelport for over 30 years.
Pollock has stated that IBM enters with the research and development while Travelport enters with the knowledge and experience about this industry, as well as the data. This way, both companies have what it takes to make a good partnership that can really use all the potential of the blockchain technology and intelligence to help the customer achieve the best possible result.
When both companies make this project, they intend to really understand the potential of the blockchain technology and to look for specific use cases that can help to shape the future of the travel industry.
IBM, as Pollock explains, will help Travelport to disrupt this sector and to provide for a very exciting collaboration outside of the core business model of the company.
IBM WatsonOne of the tools that will be used on the partnership is IBM Watson, which is supposed to give a huge edge to the companies in terms of tech. The travel manager created by IBM uses this technology and will deliver services using the IBM Cloud services.
This technology, which has been winning prizes since 2011, has been mainly used in medical centers and similar facilities but it also has a range of applications related to the artificial intelligence technology which include natural language processing, voice recognition and business analytics.
Pollock has affirmed during the interview that the ability to mine data and to use it later is very important for both companies and that this will help to make more informed decisions.
IBM has decided to start to use this technology in other industries now as it has matured enough and it looks finished and ready to be used as a way to gather and use data that can help many industries.
The IBM Travel ManagerThe main product will be the IBM Travel Manager, which will be built using the IBM Watson as an important part of it, as they will work together. With this new program, you will be able to create alerts and notifications, predictive and pre-defined spending trend analysis, and natural language understanding to analyze text and uncover insights from the data.
While all this is important, the main advantage of the product is that it will be used to access siloed information and to give users more access to some things that they simply were not able to access without the help of a product like this one.
Consumers will be able to acquire this new product via IBM or Travelport.
