Apple casually slips membranes into new Macbooks to try and fix keyboard issues

Well, I gotta eat my words. Not did I only rubbish Apple for not fixing its keyboard, one of TNW’s editors disagreed with my take on the update so much, he wrote an article refuting it. Obtained by MacRumours, an internal document that’s been sent to Apple Authorized Service Providers (you know, the folks who fix your Apple products, but don’t wear those silly polo shirts) confirms iFixit’s find of a silicone barrier underneath the keys of the new MacBook Pro. дальше »

Survey: 45% of security professionals reuse the same password

There’s a saying — “practice what you preach. ” If you give advice, make sure it’s something you follow personally. Turns out, some security pros aren’t doing that. A survey of 306 infosec professionals at London’s Infosecurity Conference 2008 from Lastline showed that 45 percent commit one of the biggest security cardinal sins — reusing passwords across accounts. дальше »

This visualization of Venmo’s public data is terrifying

PayPal’s peer-to-peer payment app, Venmo, is one of the modern world’s greatest conveniences. It’s a simple way to send people money without jumping through a bunch of hoops. But, what if you found out that every transaction you completed with the app was, by default, instantly uploaded to the internet for the entire world to see? You’d be upset right? Well, as it turns out, if you never changed the privacy settings in your Venmo account you’re sharing your transaction history with everyone. дальше »

Report: Apple’s iPhone 6 has the highest failure rate among iPhones — but Samsung is worse

A recent study of the past five years’ worth of iPhone releases saw that the iPhone 6 was, hands down, the worst Apple handset release in recent memory. The Genesis Files: With Bit Gold, Szabo Was Inches Away From Inventing Bitcoin

As his Hungarian parents had fled post-war Soviet regime to settle in the United States, Nick Szabo came to call the Californian Bay area of the 1990s his home. Here, he was among the first to frequent the in-person “Cypherpunk” meetings organized by Timothy May, Eric Hughes and other founding members of the collective of cryptographers, programmers and privacy activists centered around the ’90s mailing list of the same name. дальше »

Teen requires surgery to remove knotted USB cable from penis

I think it’s fair to say that few of us have made decisions we didn’t later come to regret. But personally, I can proudly say that inserting a USB cable into my urethra was never one of them. An unnamed (thankfully for him) 13-year-old from China’s Heilongjiang province was hospitalized after cutting off the end of a USB cable, and inserting approximately 10 centimeters of what remained into his urethra. дальше »
