The National Health Services (NHS) facilities in England use blockchain technology to keep tabs on the supply and storage of temperature-sensitive COVID-19 vaccines.
The system will “allow us to demonstrate our commitment to providing safe patient care,” said Steve Clarke, electro-biomedical engineering manager at South Warwickshire NHS, in a statement.
The tech is developed by US firm Hedera Hashgraph and UK organization Everyware that uses sensors to monitor equipment in real-time.
“We can absolutely verify the data that we’ve collected from every single device,” Everyware’s Tom Screen said in an interview. “We make sure that data is accurate at source, and after that point, we can verify that it’s never been changed, it’s never been tampered with.”
Hedera is a blockchain consortium backed by IBM and Google. The blockchain's real-world usage helped its native token HBAR surge to hit $0.125, recording a 294% uptrend since the beginning of the year.
