First Version of Telegram Open Network Blockchain Light Client Spotted on GitHub
According to the latest news, which came out on May 25, it is very likely that a GitHub user has recently uploaded the first version of the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain light client. Light clients are crucial elements in blockchain ecosystems, as they help users access and interact with the blockchain in a secure and decentralized manner without having to sync the full network.
Pursuant to the readme information file on GitHub, a properly configured client connects to a full node for the TON blockchain testnet and sends some queries to it.
The obvious existence of a testnet is consistent to the conpany’s April reports, according to which Telegram opened access to private beta testing version to a limited number of global developers, including Russian development teams. According to the team, this testing reaffirms their belief in the capacities of the TON virtual machine and the TON.
The file also cites the same content of GitHub repository, which can be found on the test.ton.org domain. This domain was registered with privacy protection. For that reason, it is impossible to find the registrar’s identity, as it is not in ICANN archive.
Kiku Reise is the nickname of the developer, who created the section and is currently the only user who contributed to the repository. On the Telegram channel the link referred to TON has also been posted, but without any official verification of the repository’s authenticity.
According to Kiku Reise, all he did was the creation of the aforementioned test.ton.org domain’s backup on GitHub. He commented:
“I think that there is a small chance that this could be a fake. We will analyze the code and find out for sure.”
The repository also contains the introduction to the new programming language, the existence of which had been first rumored earlier this week. According to the document, the language is designed specifically for being used for the development and management of TON blockchain smart contracts.
Meanwhile, the company has created a new programming language for its Telegram Open Network and is planning to launch its Telegram Open Network (TON) in the third quarter of 2019.
All in all, despite all the doubts voiced by skeptics, Telegram confirmed successful results of its testing process which can be viewed as proof that the company’s blockchain and consensus algorithm meet the goal announced in its original TON white paper.
