HTC, the world-wide known Taiwanese smartphone producer, unveiled its first Android phone in the late 2000s and now it is definitely ready to go further. The company is officially releasing its first blockchain-enabled phone.
The World’s First Blockchain-Powered SmartphoneCoinSpeaker has already covered this ambitious project. In May, the company revealed its plans to build the “world’s first native blockchain phone” named Exodus and now, finally, the early-access version of the HTC Exodus is available for pre-order.
The EXODUS 1 is entirely dedicated to blockchain encryption. There are no chances to see this device on the shelves just alongside traditional cell phones. The only way to buy this smartphone is to pay for it using Bitcoin or Ethereum.
The price is established at the level of 0.15 BTC or 4.78 ETH which is approximately $960 at the current exchange rate. Such a price makes it close to such premium smartphones as, for example, Apple’s iPhone XS and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9.
The device is available for pre-order in the U.S., Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, the U.K. and in approximately 30 other countries. The deliveries are said to start in December this year.
Technical DetailsHTC’s new smartphone will support decentralized applications and programs running on blockchain. Moreover, it will have a “Social Key Recovery” function thanks to which a user will easily restore access to his or her funds even if the private key is lost.
From the very beginning it was revealed that HTC Exodus would support such underlying protocols as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dfinity, and some other major networks. A little bit later, when Charlie Lee joined the team as an advisor, it was announced that the device would support the Lightning Network on Litecoin natively which was positively welcomed by the community.
Further PlansThe team understands that now they are working with an absolutely new product that’s why they hope that the blockchain community will get them feedback about the early-access version which will be extremely useful for introducing upgrades and improvements for the device. Moreover, according to the announcement of the company, they also invite developers to take part in their project.
In his comments about Exodus 1, HTC’s decentralized chief officer, Phil Chen said:
“The goal is to start with the blockchain community and get their assistance in making our wallet and the technology even more secure, in essence testing it out and providing feedback and suggestions [and] solutions”.
He also added:
“Recent figures show that there are around 35 million wallets out there at the moment. The HTC EXODUS 1 is about getting the consumer used to owning their own keys and going from there to develop the EXODUS into a device that can be for the broader market.”
Nevertheless, there is still no information revealed about when the general public may expect to see a wider launch of the device.
