Facebook Seeks for Talents to Join Its Blockchain Team

According to the recent announcement on Facebook’s careers page, the worldwide social network is looking for fresh talents to welcome on board its growing blockchain team. The company seeks for a data scientist, a data engineer, a couple of software engineers and a product marketing lead to manage the project. But ufortunately, no concrete plans for the blockchain project’s nearest future have been revealed yet.

The description of these vacancies is very vague and contains only a few phrases, typical for job offering announcements. The company says that it is in search of people who “share a passion for tackling complexity” and aims at reaching out to people who want to “explore the opportunity the blockchain will bring.”

Considering the information given about the blockchain startup itself, the Facebook team noted only some obvious statements, still leaving the public unaware of its inside processes:

“The blockchain team is a startup within Facebook, with a vision to make blockchain technology work at Facebook scale. It’s a small, fast-growing, but talented group of people who are passionate about changing the world.”

But for those who have taken a long-term interest in Facebook’s innovations, the social network’s decentralization efforts don’t come as a great surprise. A few months earlier, in May 2018, the company launched its blockchain team headed by Davis Marcus, the former head of Messenger at Facebook as well as a board member at the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange ‘Coinbase’. According to Marcus himself, this was going to be another exciting challenge:

“After nearly four unbelievably rewarding years leading Messenger, I have decided it was time for me to take on a new challenge. I’m setting up a small group to explore how to best leverage Blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch.”

And further back, at the beginning of the year, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg had made his intentions clear about studying the decentralized blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies as the company has been fighting against the major menace and challenge of fake news being propagated through the Facebook platform.

However, Facebook has always been and continues to be one of the major news source in the US and around the globe. According to a Pew Research Center study from September 2018, 43 percent of American adults still get news from Facebook, despite the fact that they “expect the news they see on social media to be largely inaccurate.”

What can be said for sure is that if such a strong player as Facebook, which boasts a reported 2.27 billion of monthly active users worldwide for 2018, enters the world of blockchain, it is obvious that the technology’s implementation will soon reach gigantic audiences.
