Elon Musk Suspends Ye from Twitter for Violating Rules on ‘Incitement to Violence’ with Swastika Post
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has violated another rule on Twitter, making Elon Musk suspend his account of millions of followers. According to Musk, the account was suspended because Ye broke the platform’s policy by inciting violence on his Twitter page. The popular artist posted an image of a swastika, a symbol synonymous with the Nazis, inside a star of David. Notably, this happened after making antisemitic comments in an interview with radio host Alex Jones on Thursday.
During the interview, conspiracy theorist Jones and Ye praised Hitler, stirring reactions across various social media platforms. They spoke positively about the Nazi dictator, adding that:
“The Jewish media has made us feel like the Nazis and Hitler have never offered anything of value to the world. I see good things about Hitler, also.”
The interview made headlines and was the subject of discussions, and “Kanye” became a trending topic on Twitter. Clips of the debate went around on Twitter, gaining hundreds of thousands of tweets. About 24 hours later, Ye tweeted the swastika image inside a Star of David, which was later blocked by Twitter and got disapproval from Musk. The CEO also wrote that despite trying his best for Ye, he violated Twitter’s rule against incitement to violence. Hereby declaring that his “account will be suspended.”
Musk Suspends Ye from TwitterTwitter indeed has suspended Ye’s account again.
Notably, all these are happening less than two weeks after the social media platform lifted the suspension on Ye’s account. The American songwriter has been in the news more often based on his Twitter posts and partnership termination. In October, German company Adidas ended its relationship with him, following the offensive and antisemitic comments he made. Not long after, clothing retail company Gap (NYSE: GPS) and Foot Locker (NYSE: FL) said they would remove Yeezy products from their stores. Foot Locker explained that it does not condone any form of “antisemitism, or hateful and discriminatory behavior.” The company added:
“While we remain a partner with adidas and carry a wide assortment of their collections – we will not be supporting any future Yeezy product drops.”
Gap mentioned the same reasons for cutting ties with Ye. The company said, “antisemitism, racism and hate in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance” with its values. All the companies ending relationships with the rapper emphasized antisemitism and other forms of hate speech as their reasons. Adidas had said that Ye’s recent comments and actions were “unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous.” The company added that the behavior violated its values.
